The Masquerade of Deception: When a Fugitive Attempts to Manipulate French and European Public Opinion

At the initiative of a cross-border collective bringing together French citizens, ethical whistleblowers, human rights defenders, and several associations active in France and across Europe, the OMSAC was approached to provide its institutional communication platform for this exceptionally serious statement.

At a time when recurring media excesses are distorting public debate, poisoning relations between peoples, and instrumentalising democratic values for personal or partisan purposes, our collective has chosen to speak with one voice in order to restore the truth and call upon institutions to act responsibly.

The Masquerade of Deception: When a Fugitive Attempts to Manipulate French and European Public Opinion

By daring to claim on a French television channel that the Algerian authorities and security services are pulling the strings and are directly behind acts of vandalism and demonstrations in France, Mr Chawki Benzehra has gone beyond the bounds of ridicule and sunk into the most contemptuous disregard for the intelligence of the French people.

This fugitive, presenting himself under the guise of a “whistleblower” while allegedly evading serious criminal convictions in his country of origin, evidently takes television viewers and the political establishment for fools.

By explicitly targeting the Algerian state in an attempt to make French and European citizens swallow such far-fetched claims, he appears to imagine that national and international audiences must rely on the ramblings of such a figure to understand the social situation in France and Europe.

In reality, this pitiful impostor is merely seeking to exploit bilateral tensions to win favour with reactionary media circles, engaging in a grotesque escalation that insults not only the sovereignty of France and Europe, but also the dignity of Algeria.

Appeal to the Competent Authorities

In the face of such blatant contempt, this breach of professional standards, and these unacceptable provocations, our collective expresses a clear demand: we call for firm and immediate intervention by the competent institutions to put an end to this scandal and this crude attempt to manipulate public opinion, as we consider this individual’s conduct to pose a serious risk to peace in France and Europe.

For and on behalf of the Collective of Citizens, Whistleblowers and Human Rights Associations (France & Europe): Lina LEFEBVRE
